For anyone who works in the Home Technology Industry or for that matter follows technology, the “Digital Home” has been a mirage for some time now. We have been hearing about: smart appliances, High Def TV, broadband, interactive components, wireless networks and home offices for more than a decade. Forget it Chicken Little, it ain’t happening, or… has it already happened? How many of the previously listed futuristic technologies do you already have? It is commonly held that the “tipping point” for product/concept adoption is around 8-10%. Well… nearly all of them are there or beyond. In other words they are not a fad, they work, they are improving our lives and they are here to stay. OK I’m digging you… so what’s next? Next is the acceleration into a mass market. You will soon watch newly released movies in your living room, on very large, crystal clear TV sets with movie theatre sound. Not for $50,000-$75,000 but $5,000-$7,500. We’re not talking theatre seats and curtains (although they are a great touch), but rather quality equipment installed and maintained to produce stunning results right in the comfort and privacy of your home. This future will also see a central computer that will run terminals (screens) in the home that only require a, mouse and keyboard (with content being controlled and stored in a single location). Eventually the lines will further blur as the heating and cooling, security and lighting systems are also computer driven in an effort to maximize energy efficiency and performance while minimizing cost. If you want to see the cars we’re driving today look at a “Car & Driver” magazine circa. 1995. The future is here and it’s pretty cool! TechConnectors is proud to have won the Angie’s List Super Service award for 2006. This is our 2nd consecutive year receiving the award.
