Installation of the Season
Keeping it Simple

Ever see those home technology shows where the rich and famous have all these cool toys – on screen DVD interfaces, lighting control, and killer home theater – but you don’t see a thing except the TV?

Mike M. in Naperville has all that, but for far less than what Robin Leach would ever imagine.

The concept is simple: Take everything for your home audio and video needs, tuck it away in a cleanly wired, easily serviceable rack in a closet or utility room.  Enjoy every last bit of performance and simplicity without the stack of black boxes in each room.  Better yet?  Distributing audio and video lets Mike have a personal DVR that follows him around the house, not tied to a specific TV; lighting control lets lights dim automatically when you start a DVD;  and advanced communications between devices means he is even able to know when his children turn on the TV without permission.

You don’t need to be rich or famous to enjoy these new technologies.

Kirk's Corner
Technology is Feng Shui…. Really!

For a long time the home theatre has been a predominately male domain; the man’s ‘toys” were relegated to the basement in a theater room and when the boys came over they would congregate and ogle over the cool technology.

Today however, more and more women are getting involved in not only the purchase, but the installation of Home Technology.  This influence is changing the landscape!

Many people are choosing to hang their flat panels over the fireplace or use them more as “art pieces” to accent a room.  A client recently discovered they could scroll a montage of family photos on the 50” flat screen in their living room and were thrilled with this previously unexplored option.

Flat Panel TVs offer a sleek, modern design that can contribute to a room’s appeal and with television a regular fixture in (most) of our lives, it is only natural to want to integrate it into the home in a warm and inviting way.  When you watch High Def TV on a large flat panel with surround sound the viewing transcends into a “theater experience”.

There is something else to consider as well; It used to be that only bathrooms and kitchen could recoup investment in a resale of the home, but today’s technology can be as much an up sell as other options and raises the intrinsic value of the home.

I am not sure if they all point to the East… but they look awesome.

Technology Spotlight
Control4

As more and more devices are being connected to the internet, the ability (and need) to control and communicate with these devices is becoming more practical, if not necessary.  This type of technology has been around for years, in one way or another, but has always been priced far out of the reach of most consumers.  With internet protocol (IP) rapidly becoming the standard for communication and control, the entry point of these technologies has now achieved critical mass.

Control 4 was one of the first companies to offer a single interface for nearly everything electronic in your home.  While many companies can control your DVD player and TV, Control 4’s unique and straight forward interface can control all your A/V equipment, plus lighting, drapes, security, climate, cameras, and much more.  The ability to take all the technology in a home and put in the palm of your hand is here, and it’s cool.

Contact us and we'll explain how it can integrate into your home, or check it out online at www.control4.com

Top 5 Ways Video Games Have Changed

The world of video “gaming” has really changed and families are now enjoying quality time playing with each other. It has evolved from teenagers with glazed eyes logging countless hours into; Mom’s tennis elbow is acting up and we can’t get dad off of Rock Star! With Wii it’s we not me… and the interaction has opened the door for groups to participate in playing video games together. The future of interactive or even 3D gaming may provide years of growth and excitement.

The Top 5 ways video games have changed:

5. Kids are asking their parents to keep it down after they go to bed

4. You don’t need to be embarrassed if you get winded playing tennis or boxing on Wii

3. Building an avatar is fun and can tell a lot about what we think of ourselves

2. You can actually break 100 bowling

1. Knowing the words to a Bon Jovi song is a good thing
